SURVIVOR!Ninth/Tenth/Eleventh Grades
LIFE ON THE EDGE
Students will look at the gravity of outdoor, winter conditions. They will look at extreme sports from a safety perspective and in relationship to Traumatic Brain Injuries. We will create a documentary film and movie night event to be held on December 19th, 6-9pm (Commons) for a community audience. |
FALLING AND FLINGINGNinth Grade
WHAT GOES UP, COMES DOWN
Energy! We talk about it all the time: "I'm low on energy right now," "Our society uses too much energy," or "My new car is energy efficient." But, do we really know what it is? In this expedition, students will realize that in all of the above statements (and in every situation possible) we're actually talking about the same thing. Students will have the opportunity to engineer for energy efficiency an aquaponics system or similar project of their choice. Students will then build their designed system and analyze it for efficiency. Students will finish the course by extrapolating what they learned from their systems to society's energy needs. Students will use NASA's "Engineering Design Cycle" as a guide to learn about the physical world of energy. Are you ready to BUILD? |

CHOICE MAPS OUR LIVES
What is “normal” and what does it mean to be marginalized? This expedition explores the qualities that make us human and how our characterizations and perspectives shape humanity. We’ll look at nature v. nurture and explore our own opportunities and circumstances. We will use the power of story to directly impact the lives and empower the voice of others. |
CONSEQUENCES OF MODERN WARTenth and Eleventh Grade
DOES EVERY ACTION HAVE A CONSEQUENCE?
Come and explore the social, political, and economic consequences of modern war from World War II on. Together we will trace the domino affects that have come from decisions, actions, and conflict that have arisen from the end of World War II. Through field work and service projects, we will see first hand from some who have personally experienced these consequences of war. We will conclude with the creation of a living museum exhibit that will explore and reflect on the importance of our topic. |
